365.3: Tardy for the Party Already

Yeah, that's right. I just used a pop-culture reference that's like so 10 months ago. But day three proved to be long and exhausting, albeit fun and rewarding.
So I missed my first post.
Never fear. Better late than never.
May 15 was a beautiful day. A day that six other hostesses and I had the honor of showering my long-time friend Robin as we anticipate the arrival of her baby girl, Ava Grace!

365.2: Family Birthday Dinner

Tonight Ryan and I had our “family” birthday party complete with a family photo shoot with the fabulous Becca Stanley, a make-your-own-pizza dinner, and a tray mounded high with ice cream sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies, and mousse! Can you see my excitement about the birthday dessert?

I really have the greatest family ever.

365.1: 365 for 29

Today I turned 29.
I know this is not nearly as big as 30, but I also know that this next year of my life will hold so many changes and firsts and things I don't want to forget.
So begins my Project 365.
A new picture for each day of my 29th year.

Saving Lives of Jellyfish

We are rounding out our first leg of the family beach trip. We've been in Panama City beach with my family for a few days as a 60th birthday celebration for my mom. Every morning my mom has woken up at the crack of dawn with Holden and they've spent hours on the beach. This morning the two explorers found two jellyfish. (Ryan says the plural is "jellyfae." Right.)

Holden was so excited to catch them and bring them up to the house to show his brother. Then they realized they were still alive. So this is a picture of the boys watching Ryan return the jellyfish to the wild.

Tomorrow morning we're heading down south to Naples to meet up with the Stanleys and continue another week of relaxation, eating, and fun!

The Ring-Bearer

A wedding is a completely different experience through the eyes of a three-year-old ring bearer. To Holden, our cousin Kate's wedding was all about M&M's after walking down the aisle, playing in a field with the flower girl, and eating a cake that was as tall as him! This pretty much sums it up:

I Heart Desserts

When you become a mom, you are thrust into a whole new world that requires a whole new skill set. For example, I used to be really good at giving a relaxing facial, staying up-to-date with seeing the latest movies, running a spa, and hosting parties with trendy cocktails and chic food (I use to actually make homemade potato chips served with caviar).

Over the past four years, I have discovered that I could be good at changing an exploding diaper without gagging, sanitizing surfaces multiple times a day, singing lullabies, cooking dinner with a crying baby on my hip, and throwing parties for little 3-feet people. One of my favorite parts about these little parties is making the cake the night before. I always do something homemade, try to be creative, and choose a design the birthday boy will love.

This year Turner's second birthday party was themed after the movie Cars, which he loves. Here is the racetrack cake I made.

I Heart This Dramatic Face

Turner is shy, but dramatic none-the-less. If he were a teenager right now, he'd definitely be an emo kid. (Don't know what "emo" means? Here is the Urban Dictionary definition.) This past weekend we went to a gigantic Easter Egg Hunt (I'm talking hundreds of kids) but Turner was a bit...grumpy. Here he is, not wanting to stand with the rest of us, clinging to his balloon and wallowing in his sour mood. Drama.
